The Gorgon plant has many leading design features that aim to maximize energy efficiency and minimize greenhouse gas emissions. In the stationary operation, gorgon is expected to have the lowest greenhouse gas emissions intensity of any LNG project in Australia. Barrow Island`s gas processing facilities include an LNG facility, condensation production facilities, CO2 injection facilities and associated distribution facilities. There is also an indoor gas facility capable of delivering up to 300TJ/d. The proposed project has been criticized by conservation groups for the potential impact on the ecology of Barrow Island. It is a Class A nature reserve and a place of origin for the powder-based turtle (classified as an endangered species[30]) and many other animals not found on the Australian mainland. [26] [31] Other concerns relate to the adequacy of quarantine procedures at Barrow Island for protection against introduced species[32] and the risks associated with the geological receivership of CO2. In November 2011, it was reported that since the start of the work, native Searow Island animals have been accidentally killed with a total of 1550 deaths per day[33] In addition to Gorgon, the projects chevron has invested in and its other activities in Australia are expected to bring significant long-term direct and indirect economic benefits to the Australian economy. In July 2018, Chevron Australia placed an order from TechnipFMC for project management and engineering, transportation, installation and commissioning of navel, flies and distributors for the development of the second phase. The release of this energy puts Australia in a prime position to meet future demand and provide clean fuel, both domestically and abroad. In January 2016, Chevron Australia signed a non-binding agreement (HoA) with ENN LNG Trading Company to supply LNG to China. The expansion project aims to maintain the entire natural gas supply of 15.6 MTPA and a national gas supply of 275mmscf/d from the LNG facility. It will include the development of the Jansz Io infill, seven Gorgon wells and other related facilities.

The Gorgon project will be an important pillar of the Australian economy in the coming decades. To date, the project has spent $31 billion on local goods and services and has created more than 10,000 jobs in Australia. The project is estimated to contribute approximately $40 billion to Australian government revenues and $64 billion to Australia`s gross domestic product. The CO2 injection project for carbon dioxide (CO2) involves the design, construction and operation of CO2 tank injection and storage facilities in a deep reservoir unit known as dupuy, more than two kilometres below Barrow Island.
